After receiving a tattoo at Adrenaline, it is essential that an aftercare routine is followed to ensure that successful healing occurs. We recommend leaving the bandage that is covering your tattoo on overnight or according to your artists instructions. Remove the bandage and wash the tattoo in the shower. Wash your entire body and hair before you wash the tattoo. Wash your tattoo with a clean, mild, unscented soap, this means use a liquid soap or a new bar soap designated specifically for your tattoo. Pat the tattoo dry using a clean paper towel, making sure that you are not rubbing to dry. Leave the tattoo alone for the next 24 hours to air dry. The following morning, repeat the shower procedure and you can begin to use a mild unscented, water based lotion, such as Lubriderm, no more than two times a day and only when necessary. Ensure that this is not immediately after showering, wait a few hours for tattoo to dry. When applying the lotion, make sure to only use a very thin layer. If too much lotion is applied, dab off the excess with a clean paper towel. Remember that too little lotion is better than too much. Never apply the lotion just before bed as it will stick to your sheets and make sure that you always wear clean clothes to cover the tattoo. It is normal to see the tattoo begin to flake during the first week of healing., don’t pick at these flakes, they will fall off on their own. Do not soak the tattoo in any body of water during the flaking phase and never scratch at the flakes. After the flakes fall off, your tattoo will have a shiny look. Do not expose your tattoo to the sun during this phase. Once the shiny skin is gone, you can expose your tattoo to the sun as long as you cover it with sun block to keep the tattoo looking crisp. Happy Healing!
Aftercare products
The product that we recommend at Adrenaline to aid in the successful healing of tattoos is Lubriderm. Lubriderm is a water based lotion that will relieve dryness, tightness, and itching during the healing process, and its light texture allows skin to breathe. It is important to keep in mind that Lubriderm is only used for comfort and to prevent the tattoo from drying or cracking. Remember that too little lotion is better than too much!
